Behind the Scenes - Verdi Requiem

Verdi Requiem: a magnificent piece of music but such challenges, musical and otherwise! When the audience arrives, they will see a stage filled with over 250 musicians, and then the first notes are heard. A 90-minute spiritual and dramatic experience unfolds.

Our own drama really began a year ago.

Need an orchestra. We have that. No problem.

Need lots of singers - at least 150. Local chorus is very good but only about 80 singers. Where to find an additional 100 or so? First thought, college or university that isn't too far away and that can fit into schedule. Hillsdale College responds. They have an excellent program and their professor is a former conductor of the JSO.

How do all of these people fit onstage? Driving past Parkside Middle School, conductor sees portable metal risers for tennis matches and inquiries are made with school district to borrow them for a weekend.

Oh, and how do we get those 100 students from Hillsdale to Jackson for rehearsals and performances? This is still unresolved. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW WE CAN LINE UP TRANSPORTATION FOR 100 STUDENTS AT AN INEXPENSIVE RATE???
